ALMACO Group’s Provision Stores and Refrigeration Machinery Onboard NYK Cruises Newbuild Asuka III

Posted on April 16, 2025

ALMACO Group is proud to announce the successful completion of its contribution to NYK Cruises’ latest vessel, Asuka III, delivered in April 2025 at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg. ALMACO’s involvement encompassed the supply and installation of provision stores and the engineering, procurement, project management, and commissioning of the refrigeration machinery system.

ALMACO’s Scope Onboard

In September 2022, ALMACO signed an agreement with Meyer Werft to provide the newbuild Asuka III of Japanese NYK Cruises with ALMACO’s Provision Cooling Plant. ALMACO’s scope for Asuka III included the design and installation of state-of-the-art provision stores tailored to meet the vessel’s specific needs.

In parallel, the team engineered a complete refrigeration machinery system, comprising cooling units, air coolers, and a control system. ALMACO managed the procurement process, oversaw project management, and ensured the seamless commissioning of the entire plant, adhering to the highest standards of quality and efficiency. One of the very specific technical challenges were designing and building a cold room capable of reaching and maintaining a temperature of minus 43 degrees Celsius. Despite the complexity, the team successfully overcame this challenge. The provision stores were designed to optimize storage space and maintain the freshness of perishable goods, while the refrigeration machinery system was built to provide reliable and efficient cooling.

Dedication and Cooperation

The project was successfully delivered in April 2025 thanks to the great collaboration between ALMACO, the yard and the owners. Samuel Teyssier, Project Manager at ALMACO responsible for the refrigeration machinery scope, commented “We are proud of the outcome and the quality of this project, and we would like to like to thank all parties involved for the great teamwork.” The dedication and cooperation of all teams involved were crucial in overcoming challenges and ensuring the project’s success.

As Asuka III is planning to set sail in July of 2025 in Japan, ALMACO extends our best wishes to the ship, NYK Cruises, and all its guests. ALMACO is looking forward to continuing our teamwork in the future and working together on future projects with both NYK Cruises and Meyer Werft. Happy Sailing!
