ALMACO awarded the First Order to deliver a Completely Modular Building
ALMACO is proud to announce that it has been selected to construct the new dormitory building at the Northern Bahamas Campus in Freeport. The dormitory will be built using ALMACO’s modular technology and will be available during the summer of 2016.
ALMACO has a long and successful history with The Bahamas. From the very early beginnings of the company in the 1990s, ALMACO has built and refurbished thousands of cabins for cruise owners at Grand Bahama Shipyard, the vast majority of which were modular cabins. The Bahamas has also been a home for ALMACO as the company is currently involved in the development of the Resorts World hotel on the island of Bimini, where most of ALMACO’s elegant modular rooms are now delivered and open to the public.
ALMACO brings almost two decades of knowledge and expertise in modular technology to the dormitories at The College of The Bahamas. The complete structures will be modular and delivered to the site minimizing the environmental impact to the island. The building will house 88 students and it encompasses 14 dorms, each with four bedrooms with six beds, a bathroom and a living area, plus an accessible dorm and accommodations for the Resident Director. The building will also house several public areas such as a cafeteria, an office, public toilets, a health clinic, and back of house technical areas such as the kitchen, cold and dry stores, HVAC, piping systems, laundry, among others. ALMACO has designed the structures to fit with the Bahamian architecture in order to further enhance the beauty of the environment.
ALMACO’s modular dormitories have many benefits for both the owner and the location. The construction time is significantly reduced as only the foundation and other infrastructure works are needed at the site. Also, the modular structures allow a consistent quality level throughout the dorms and are convenient for future additions. The structures are durable and provide the necessary life safety reassurances with fire and sound proofing. Additionally, ALMACO’s engineered pre-manufactured technology provides a cleaner and smaller footprint on the island as the construction time and impact to the site is diminished. Waste and the disruption to the local environment are therefore reduced to a minimum.
